Press Release Body: Renuka is 11 and does fairly well at school. She loves to play and is fascinated by computers, but has to take care of many of the household chore, from looking after her younger sister to washing dishes at home and outside. Her mother works as a maid for about 10 households.
Lakshmi is 10 and her mother found her in a dumpster when she was an infant. Lakshmi will grow up fine and will share the same future as Renuka.
These are two names to a million faces. They have homes and families, they go to schools, they eat normal food and have parents that work. They have dreams and they have wishes, but they may not have anyone around to look up to. someone who has the time, patience, understanding and love to sit down with them and listen to them. To guide them and help them when they need.
They are the future, we can either shrug our shoulders and say, 'But what can I do?' OR
We can hold their hand while their fingers are still curled around their dolls and toy cars.We can show them a path while they are still looking for one!!
We can be a big brother or a big sister to one such child and a make a difference in their lives!
Anjali is 12 and helps her mother sell imlis (tamarind). She also takes care of her little sister. She left school but has found a mentor or a big sister (as we like to call our mentors at DOR.) Anjali can now spend a few hours every week with her big sister Armin doing activities that she enjoys. She has found a friend, a guide and a big sister..
DOR. A thread of joy is bringing a wonderful opportunity for you to create a bond that will make a difference and will last forever. And all you have to do is spend time doing normal fun activities with a child we match you up with.
Extend your hand. make a child smile.
Step forward.because we ARE the people WE are looking for.
